The widow of the late Internal Security Assistant Minister Orwa Ojode, Mary, wants to know how much her mother in-law is demanding from her husband’s estate.
The widow on Wednesday told the court that her mother in-law has not indicated in her affidavit how much she is seeking from court.
“The order stopping the National Assembly from processing benefits to the widow has stopped his only child from proceeding to school abroad,” said Ojode’s lawyer Fred Okeyo.
Ojode’s mother and his widow are engaged in a legal battle over Ojode’s estate.
Mrs Ulda Aloo Ojode has gone to court seeking to stop the National Assembly from processing the benefits and paying the same to the widow.
She has sued the National Assembly and the widow. Ulda moved to court under a certificate of urgency on August 10 seeking temporary orders.
After three unsuccessful attempts, the mother obtained an order stopping Parliament from paying any compensation to his widow.
“They should come and say how much they are claiming. If its Sh 10 Million, then they should indicate in her affidavit”, Okeyo told Justice Joyce Khaminwa.
He further said his client wished to settle the case out of court but the interference from outsiders has complicated the matter.
Justice Khaminwa concurred saying the court usually encourages family disputes be settled amicably outside court.
The Clerk of the National Assembly said they wished the court would give directions on the matter urgently since they would like to pay the benefits as soon as possible.
