Mother of girl who stole money jailed

The mother of a 16-year-old, who admitted stealing $5,000 (Sh420,000) has been sentenced to four years imprisonment.

Mary Nasabu Maua was found guilty of handling stolen property and jailed for two years and two additional years for destroying evidence.

However, Resident Magistrate John Aringo acquitted her and husband Mohamed Abuu Maua on a charge of  stealing the money from US-based Kenyan Mary Kirigo Mwangi at Ring Road Estate in Nyeri town on August 3.

Abuu Maua and his wife had denied stealing the dollars, a suitcase, and personal effects all worth Sh586,810.
