An environmental group that keeps some of the world’s most poisonous snakes is keen to start business of selling venom extracted from the deadly reptiles.
Benjamin Okalo, chairman of Kakamega Environmental Education Programme (Keep) that runs the snake farm said there is big demand for venom on international market to make medicine for snakebites.
Okalo noted due to the demand, a gramme of venom is selling highly.
“The demand keeps increasing each day and we hope to team up with international experts to expand our market,’’ said Okalo. “We are also going to keep some harmless snakes such as Sanbow for people to touch while learning about snakes when they visit our farms,’’ he added.
