A parent has been admitted to Nyahururu District Hospital with injuries after he was attacked by a mob for allegedly causing chaos in a school.
The man is said to have caused trouble at Kahutha Primary School in Nyandarua North yesterday after his wife stormed the school to collect their child.
Deputy Head Teacher Lydia Murage said the woman grabbed her son and threatened to strangle him for refusing to be transferred to another school.
Ms Murage said the boy had been brought to the school by well-wishers who found him in the bush and had refused to go to Muthaiga Academy where he had been transferred.
Murage said the parent assaulted the school’s head, Teresiah Kimani, and ran away when a crowd gathered and threatened to beat her up.
In the evening, the husband accosted the deputy head teacher who was walking home accompanied by the head teacher in the neighbouring Wangui Primary School.
The deputy head teacher ran away but Wangui Primary School Head Teacher Isaac Kibe was not lucky and was attacked with a panga.
“The man started attacking him with a panga and I ran for my dear life. I alerted other neighbours who came and rescued my colleague and attacked the man,” she said.
Speaking at Nyahururu District Hospital where he led a host of teachers in accompanying the injured teacher for treatment, Nyandarua North Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Executive Secretary Michael Chege condemned the incident.
He urged all aggrieved parents to seek home-grown solutions to problems instead of attacking teachers.
Knut National Executive Council member Elose Nduuro, who was also present, claimed that female teachers have been attacked by gangsters and urged the Government to improve security.
