Two students appeared before the High Court charged with murder of a university student.

Dancun Livingstone Kimanthi of United States International University ( USIU) and Winnie Wairimu Kariuki of Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared before Justice Nicholas Ombija.

They were charged that between June 30 and July 1 in Kiamaiko in Githunguri, Kiambu County, jointly with others not before the court, they killed Sarah Akelo Aruwa.

The two were detained as police intensified investigation into the murder of the final year USIU student, whose body was recovered in a thicket in Ngewa.

Aruwa’s death came barely two months after the kidnap of another USIU student, Melisa Ouko.

Kimanthi and Wairimu were remanded at Kileleshwa Police Station as they are also expected to face separate charges of abducting Aruwa and demanding Sh100,000 ransom.

They are expected to appear before Makadara Court today to face the charges while the murder case will be mentioned on July 17.

On June 30, Aruwa was abducted and detained for ransom but she had left a note and the phone number of a male student who was meant to host her.

Her body was recovered five days after her disappearance by police in Kiambu and the number she had left helped police to track the suspects.

Police suspect some students in the university were behind the abduction of Ms Ouko and the murder of Aruwa.
