KMC to lay off workers in new shake-up

The Government plans to lay-off some workers at the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) as one of the ways to restructure it, acting Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Aden Mohamed said Monday.

Speaking during a tour of the Athi River-based plant, the CS said the State is committed in reviving the factory that has been going up and down due to financial strains.

He, however, didn’t reveal the number of workers to be axed saying that a committee has been formed to oversee the exercise.

"We are planning an audit of the workers in the facility which will determine the ones who will remain,” said Aden.

The CS, accompanied by the KMC Chairman Taraiya Ole Kores appealed to the workers to be patient as the Government makes its decision.

The company has a Sh330 million debt.
