Armed thugs rob trader of Sh200,000

A trader has narrowly escaped death after he was accosted by gun-totting gangsters at Thiba village along the Mwea-Nairobi road who also robbed him of Sh200,000 in cash.

The Makutano-based agrovet trader was driving to a bank in Ngurubani market at about 8am to deposit the cash, when the two hooded men, one armed with an AK 47 assault rifle, obstructed David Mwaniki’s vehicle and forced him into a ditch.

The gangsters then shot in the air to scare passersby before ejecting Mwaniki from the vehicle and robbing him, and then fleeing on a standby motorcycle that had no registration number.

County Deputy Police Commander Charles Ontita confirmed the incident and called on residents to provide police with information that could lead to arrests.

“Our officers recovered a spent bullet cartridge at the scene. These are armed and dangerous gangsters and every effort is being made to apprehend them before they hit another target,” he said.
