Mutua assures Kibwana support

Governor Alfred Mutua yesterday made an unexpected appearance at the commission probing the petition to dissolve Makueni County at Wote town where he pledged to stand by the embattled Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

Dr Mutua, accompanied by Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau, sat through the proceedings in the morning session where Assembly Clerk Edward Libendi was being grilled. He later held a meeting with Prof Kibwana in his office where discussions focused on the possibility of setting a common development agenda for all Ukambani counties.

Dr Mutua said his trip to Makueni was a show of solidarity with Kibwana and the people of Makueni and also an expression of concern over the leadership wrangles in the county.

“The people of Machakos and its leadership are deeply concerned about the issues affecting Makueni. What affects our neighbours affects our people as well. We want this commission to expedite its probe so Makueni people can concentrate on development,” said Mutua.

Meanwhile, Mr Libendi, who was testifying for the fourth day, claimed he had requested to leave the assembly because he was unable to discharge his duties. “I have been reduced to fighting for finances and I am unable to discharge my duties as required,” he said.
