Evans Kidero says Nairobi will benefit from 2014-2015 Treasury funds

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has dismissed claims the county might not gain access to funds from the National Treasury to complete their 2014-2015 financial year projects.

Dr Kidero, who was speaking to the Press yesterday, maintained they were set to receive the money, which is meant to help the county's development projects.

"It's not true. We will receive the funds," said Kidero.

This follows a report by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), which showed that 27 counties, Nairobi included, failed to comply with the commission's guidelines on spending.

The report titled "Status Report on Compliance of Counties with CRA Ceiling" also showed that most counties were accused of unilaterally seeking to inflate their budgets.

The CRA's move effectively bars the affected counties from accessing funds for the remainder of the 2014-2015 financial year, putting on hold their administrative and development functions.

CRA recommends that all 47 county assemblies should spend a total of Sh16 billion on salaries, allowances, gratuity and pension for county assembly members, including speakers, other staff and mileage, among other payments, with the county executives expected to spend a total of Sh13 billion on the same.

Kidero was speaking after a church service at Redeemed Gospel Church off Kayole Road.
