Concerns over formation of criminal gangs in Trans-Nzoia

Trans-Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has blamed escalating crime locally on former convicts.

Khaemba called on security agents within and outside the region to initiate thorough monitoring plan on such individuals.

“The prisoners, who were set free under the president’s amnesty, have reverted to criminal ways and are now in gangs after finding mates while in jail,” Khaemba said.

The Governor spoke at the Kitale Agricultural Society of Kenya showground during Jamuhuri Day celebrations and warned that his administration would not tolerate any threat to the security of residents.

“There needs to be probing and vetting of former convicts; some pretended to have changed their behaviour to get amnesty,” he said.

He asked the district security committee headed by County Commissioner Stephen Ikua and county police commandant Lilian Okembo to put in place elaborate security measure during the festive season.

Senator Henry ole Ndiema urged the national government to protect the country’s porous border by deploying KDF to secure Kenyans.
