Two die in Murang'a after taking 'contaminated' liquor

Two people have died in Katipanga area in Murang'a South sub-county after consuming contaminated brews sold at a licensed bar.

Although police confirmed only two deaths, villagers claimed four other people died at their homes.

The owner of the bar and a primary school teacher are among those confirmed dead after consuming the 'licensed' liquor.

The residents accused police of failing to act on errant bar operators who stock sub-standard drinks.

"After the incidents, the police visited the area and retrieved samples of the drinks, which were found hidden in a toilet," said a source in the area.

But Murang'a County Commissioner said they were only aware of two deaths.
