Court halts eviction of Kisumu speaker Anne Adul

Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Anne Adul, has earned some reprieve after the High Court temporarily stopped her eviction from her residential house. Friday, Justice Esther Maina said Ms Adul can continue living in the house allocated to her, pending hearing of the case that was rescheduled to October 31.

On Tuesday, Adul and Kisumu Public Service Board (PSB) sued the county assembly, County Executive of Kisumu, Eliud Ojuok, Nicholas Okola and Gabriel Ochieng’. The Speaker sued the county assembly over allegations that they wanted to impeach her, violating her constitutional right and fundamental freedom. The case, which was filed under a certificate of urgency, sought several orders among them stopping Adul’s impeachment pending hearing and determination of the case.

The case was also filed with the intention of stopping the assembly from disbanding the Public Service Board (PSB). Justice Maina, also granted a temporary injunction preventing the suspension, dissolution, removal or interference with the constitution or membership of Kisumu County PSB.
