Ex-minister's wife sued in Sh150m property row

A former minister's wife is embroiled in a legal battle with her daughter-in-law over the ownership of a Sh150 million property in Loresho, Nairobi.

The wife of the former Livestock Minister Darius Mbela, Elizabeth Muchira, has been sued by Josephine Egwa, who accuses her of impropriety in the sale of the property. Egwa accuses her mother-in-law of dispossessing her of the house after the death of her husband, Eric Mbela in 2010, and subsequently illegally selling it.

In her petition, Egwa says Mrs Muchira had secretly sold the house despite her (Egwa) being the owner by the virtue of her contributing towards buying the same and co-owning it with her late husband.

Egwa said they had sought Muchira's contribution as they could not raise the required money to buy the house.

After the purchase of the property, it transpired the title deed bore the nmes of Mbela and his mother, leaving out Egwa. The property, now estimated to be around Sh 150 million, was allegedly sold by Muchira to Kilichoni Ltd. High Court Judge Pauline Nyamweya will mention the case on December 14.
