Head teacher in trouble as girls are hospitalised after alleged assault

Bungoma, Kenya: Three students from St Jude Girls High School in Bumula sub-County were admitted to the Bungoma County Referral hospital for treatment of injuries allegedly received after a teacher assaulted them.

The trio was rescued by Kimaeti Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Chrisanthus Wechuli from the laboratory where they had been confined by the head teacher Beatrice Masika.

"After we rescued them, my colleagues, Bukusu South MCA David Fwaro and Chesikaki MCA Ben Kipkut took them to Bungoma County Referral Hospital where they are receiving treatment," said Wechuli.

Ms Masika admitted disciplining the students but denied accusations of assault adding that she was only correcting them.

She accused the MCA of misleading the public into believing she had attacked and inflicted injuries on her students.

"Because of the lengthy wrangles between the MCA and I, he has decided to try and set me up through cheating and influencing students to accuse me," said Masika.

The head teacher also pointed an accusing finger at Wechuli accusing him of hiring people to eject her from the institution.

They were subdued by the security guards manning the school compound.

Efforts by The Standard to get a comment from the county medical boss Wekesa Kubasu hit a snag as he did not answer calls and text messages.
