Court issues warrant against cop probing terror suspect Lethwaite Samantha

A court has ordered Anti Terrorism Police Unit boss in Mombasa to arrest a police officer investigating terror suspect Lethwaite Samantha.

Mombasa Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gacheru ordered Elijah Rop to arrest the investigation officer and bring him to court on August 14 to brief the court on the progress of investigation.

State lawyer Mr Eugene Wangila told the court that he wants the investigation officer arrested after failing to honour two summons.

"My honour, since this case is of public and blobal interest, I am applying to have the investigation officer arrested to come and explain the progress they have made since that warrant was issued" said Wangila.

Samantha, who is wanted by the Anti Terror Police Unit for having explosive materials used to make bombs. She is suspected of intending to bomb key beach hotels frequented by UK and US tourists in Mombasa. She fled the coastal city after a warrant was issued against her in 2011.

International Police (INTERPOL) issued international warrant of arrest last year after she was suspected to have been involved in the massacre at Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi last year.
