Kisii, Kenya: Police in Kisii County rescued a stolen baby and arrested a woman suspected to be a member of a child theft syndicate.

The woman was arrested and a three-month-old baby who had been stolen from her mother at Kiogoro Level Three Hospital, rescued. It was joy for Ms Rose Bosibori and her family from Otamba village of Nyaribari Chache, as the administration police officers from Kiogoro divisional headquarters handed her the child, 24 hours after he had been stolen.

Bosibori said she met the suspect on her way from the clinic and the two became friends when her son was only three weeks old. The suspect then kept on visiting Bosibori’s home.

On Monday, the suspect, who had introduced herself to Bosibori as Ruth, offered to help the baby’s mother to take him to a nearby hospital.

After the child was treated, Bosibori left him with the suspect and went to the hospital pharmacy to take drugs. The woman had disappeared with the child when Bosibori returned. “I asked other patients at the hospital and they told me she had left with another woman plus my baby. I followed her all the way to the main road, and was told she had boarded a motorbike and left,” said Bosibori.

It was then that she reported to the police, who started the search.

According to Administration Police Sergeant James Mogaka from Kiogoro Divisional Headquarters, they contacted chiefs from all locations, and it was until Tuesday afternoon that they were informed of a strange woman with a baby at Raganga area of Kitutu Chache.

“We rushed there with the mother and found the woman with the baby. She told us her name was Rose Mong’are from Keroka,” Mr Mogaka said.
