I want my ex-boyfriend's baby but I don't want him

Dear Coleen

I was with my boyfriend for four months and things seemed to be going well until his ex walked back into his life.

He told me about it and claimed he wanted nothing to do with her and I believed him.

Then, recently, he sent me a text stating that his ex had moved in with him but she was just visiting and there was nothing going on.

Seriously, does he think I’m stupid?

I told him not to worry about it but that we were over because he was clearly back with his ex.

Here’s my problem – I’ve discovered I’m pregnant with his child and I don’t know how to tell him.

I don’t expect him to take me back or to want the baby but I feel he has the right to know.

How do I break the news to him?

Coleen says

It sounds like you’ve decided to keep the baby so you simply need to call him and say you’re telling him because you feel he has a right to know – but it’s not a trick to get him to come back to you.

I would hope that even if he doesn’t want to be with you or be a part of the baby’s life, he’ll still contribute financially at least.

Be careful you’re not telling him in the hope he’ll want a conciliation because the chances are you’ll be bitterly disappointed.

You have to accept you’ll be a single parent and that’s a tough job, so make sure you have friends and family around you for some support.
