Pulse: You have a show that brings a lighter side to news. Tell us how it came about... Wilson: The show dubbed Mock The Week is a weekly segment that brings a fun perspective to news that has been happening all through the week. We realised that a lot of unnerving things were happening in the news in regards to what politicians and newsmakers were saying so we decided to come up with a fun concept about it.

P: There is a Mock The Week in the UK. Are you using the same concept? W: Yes. Our initial idea was to simply mock what was happening in the news in Kenya, so the first running head was Mock The Week. This was to be switched up after a while but after getting all the positive reviews, we decided to keep the name and keep doing our thing.

P: How would you compare Prime Time news anchoring to hosting Mock The Week? W: Refreshing. I would say it’s a new lease on life considering that news anchoring is all about stating the hard facts but Mock The Week finally gives me the opportunity to voice everyone’s opinion in a witty way. I love voicing my opinions so the role fits like a glove.

P: Do you play different characters for your television appearances? W: Most people have asked me that, but it’s only normal that I play different characters to represent the different brands. For news, I need to deliver the facts as stated in the bulletins. However, for Mock The Week, I get the leeway to challenge what newsmakers say. Most of the time they will be careless with words and that is where we get them, using satire.

P: What sets Mock The Week apart from other satire shows? W: It has a different script and concept from other shows in that, most of the other shows take a collection of random cut-aways that make for funny pieces. On the other hand, we actually take real news clips and use them for our content.

P: Most young people love entertainment. Are they factored in as part of your show’s target? W: By all means, yes. Any person who understands news will be excited to watch the show because first, they can relate and second, it brings a twist to conventional news and pushes one to think beyond what politicians say.

P: Aside from the news, let us in on what your social life is all about? W: I have a close circle of friends who know me inside out. These are the kind of people with whom I go out for turn ups. I especially love going on road trips across Kenya because it grants me the chance to learn and appreciate my country.

P: News anchoring portrays you as too serious. How accurate is that? W: For the news, I have to front a serious face because at that point we talk about national headlines. But anyone who has met me off-air will tell you that I am laid back. I work smart and like to unwind and have some fun too.

P: Talking about fun, are ladies always in your face? W: I must say that at times they seem a little bit too interested, which could get uncomfortable especially during times when you simply want to go about your activities like a normal person.

P: On that note do you have a special person, girlfriend or wife? W: To that I will say yes; I have a special person and family who complete me and make me proud of how far I have come. Above all I cherish them a lot.

P: Tell us about your family. W: I have two beautiful baby girls who live with their mother in the United States and we are in constant communication. They seem to be having a great time based on our conversations and I know they will grow to be the best.

P: Most young anchors seem excited by the idea of being eligible bachelors. Do you ever miss those days? W: Those are phases that we all go through and gloat about. In regards to memories, they were fun times but moving on, I don’t miss them because there is so much more to look forward to.
