Arsenal fan arrested for throwing wine at the Man United bench

An Arsenal fan was arrested for throwing an object at Manchester United’s bench during Saturday’s loss

An unhappy Arsenal quite literally gave a public showing of sour grapes when he threw RED WINE at the Manchester United dugout on Saturday evening.

The incident came as United opened the scoring through a Kieran Gibbs own goal during their 2-1 win at the Emirates on Saturday evening, propelling Louis van Gaal's men into the top four.

Wine reportedly went onto the backs of unhappy United staff on the sidelines, although it is unclear whether they will make an official complaint about the matter.

Arsenal managed to identify the culprit and with the help of CCTV and stewards in attendance, removed him from the stadium. They have told Metropolitan Police that they will ban any individual found guilty.

However, there has been the opinion that the away dugouts do not have enough protection from Gunners fans for quite some time, with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson making the point previously.

Ferguson, talking in November 2008, said: “Last year was pretty unsavoury.

"In fact, I think it was nasty. It is too open for my liking. It should not happen when you build a modern stadium. You need tin helmets.

“It is a weakness in the planning that you don’t provide safety for the visiting substitutes and staff.”

Tensions ran high at the Emirates between Arsenal fans on Saturday, with a handful of Gunners fans calling for the departure of manager Arsene Wenger.

One of them held aloft a small, A4-sized placard, which read: “Enough is enough. Wenger out.” A steward quickly moved in to confiscate it.

Emirates staff are instructed to remove any items which they believe could cause divide or confrontation in the stands.
