Going against the grains of lean times when there is no sponsor to underwrite their operations and the taxman knocking at their door with a demand note of Sh118 million, Gor Mahia exhibited the true character of champions by walloping Muhoroni Youth 3-0 yesterday in a mid-week premier league match at a packed City Stadium.

Victory over Muhoroni Youth saw Gor Mahia finish the month of April on a straight winning spree.

Perhaps, Muhoroni Youth did not expect such a score line considering their recent form where they have pulled a string of good performances, collecting vital points to place them in the upper half of the table.

Playing with confience while giving deaf ears to the ever noisy Gor fans, Muhoroni could not stand the heat of the terrific atmosphere at City Stadium.

Gor pinned the visitors in their own half for the better part of the first 20 minutes while looking for the openning goal. K’Ogalo’s first meaningful attempt came in the 11th minute through George Odhiambo and was followed by some fine work from Geoffrey Walusimbi two minutes later. Muhoroni Youth first attempt came on the 24th minute.

Gor pressed harder and, in the 28th minute, striker Shaban Kenga found the back of the net with a cool finish after Rama Salim released him with a neat though pass.

If Muhoroni Youth thought the ruthless Gor Mahia was done with them, more was to follow as the pressure piled.

Dan Sserenkuma was fouled on the edge of the box by Ogolla and another Ugandan Godfrey Kizito did not disappoint with the resultant penalty kick as he drilled in a fantastic straight shot into the net to take give Gor a 2-0 lead on the  36th minute.

City Stadium got too hot for Muhoroni Youth as K’Ogalo renditions filled the air and a white line of class between them and the reigning KPL champions continued to be seen.

At summit

The exciting Gor defender Geoffrey Walusimbi raced past a defender to cross the ball into the box to find unmarked Eric Ochieng’  to nod in the third goal in the 44th minute.

The victory enabled the KPL champions to jump to the table’s summit with 20 points.

In Mombasa, Bandari again disappointed home fans after they shared the spoils with Ulinzi after they settled for a 1-1 draw at Mbaraki Sports Club.

The dockers did not play to their expectation, which saw them come from a goal down to grab a point.

Ulinzi started the match on high note with Mohammed Salim and Stephen Waweru terrorising Bandari’s defence time and again.

Ulinzi were more solid in midfield and striking force compared to Bandari whose front line failed to tick.

After a scoreless draw at first half, Mohammed Salim broke the stalemate for Ulinzi when he capitalised on Allan Abulala’s pass three minutes into the second half.

The soldiers’ celebrations were cut short three minutes later when Kepha Aswani tapped in Brono Sserenkuma’s fine pass to equalise, to the relief of home fans who were staring at defeat.
