Lake Region triumphs in Primary Schools games

Lake Region are the new football champions in both the boys and girls category of the Kenya Primary School ball games.

Lake Region girl’s team held at arm’s length the challenge of former champions Metropolitan in a thrilling encounter that was staged at the Kisumu Polytechnic ground.

Lake Region edged out Metropolitan 3-2 on post match penalties.

Judith Osimbo, the Metropolitan goalkeeper, saved two shots. She saved the first penalty taken by Lencer Adoyo and the second by Lavender Achieng.

Asha Atieno, Lillian Awuor (goalkeeper) and Winnie Akinyi scored for the Lake Region.

Lilian Awuor, after scoring against her fellow custodian,  went ahead to save three spot kicks taken by Lucy Akoth, Tina Tana Wairimo and Lydia Awuor.

Lake Region Coach Joe Peterson said he was happy with the win and the resilience the girls exhibited in the game.

Joyce Macharia the head coach of the Metropolitan team and her players Tina and Faith Ivayo wept uncontrollably after missing out on the title.

In the boys category, the Lake Region team won after scoring two quick goals through Samwel Michael and Billy Otieno.

In volleyball finals, it was Nakuru Region team verses Nzoia Region. Nakuru won against Nzoia with an identical 3-0 set score in both boys’ and girls’ category.

In the Boys division, Nakuru showed intent to win and retain the title after beating Nzoia in straight sets of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-19.

In the Girls cadre, Nakuru again beat Nzoia with a score line of 3-0 (27-24, 25-20 and 25-08).

Netball category saw Lake Region winning the category after beating Coast 50-19 in the final game.

In netball girls’,  Nzoia Region reigned supreme as they beat Lake Region 19-13 to win the encounter that was watched by a capacity crowd.

Nakuru won in the handball after beating Lake Region 21-15 in a match that attracted over 3,000 fans.

In the first semi-finals, Lake Region defeated Northern Region 14-12 while Nakuru won over Nzoia with a 16-10 score line.

Nzoia defeated Lake Region in the girl’s category with a 17-11 scoreline.

Lake Region had in the first semi-finals beat Nakuru with a 23-13 scoreline while Nzoia trounced Metropolitan 36-04.

The games, which ended yesterday, were graced by Svetlana Obruhkova the Managing Director of Nestle Kenya and Nicholas Oyucho the County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer.
