Two  Wheel Drive title contender Gurmit Thethy is psyched up for top honours at the KCB Home Loan Kiambu Rally on April 26-27 in Mboi Kamiti, Tatu City, Cianda and Migaa estate.

“I am going to approach Kiambu (Rally) cautiously. So far this year, I have been driving off pace as I wanted to get used to the new VW Golf Mk3 as its driving style is different from what I am used to. So the upcoming event will also see us drive just normally,” said Thethy.

According to Thethy, this year’s championship — unlike the last two years — will be closely contested and may go all the way to the wire with his  main challengers in Kiambu being champion Dennis Mwenda, 2012 Champion Nadeem Kana from Mombasa and Leonardo Varese who won Machakos Rally last month.

Others in this category are two all female crews of Haraka Mamas and Diva’s on Wheels.

Divas are composed of Caroline Gatimu and Margaret Qui whilst the Haraka Mamas team has Joan Nesbit and Dr. Tamara Jones.

The event, which makes up the third round of the KCB Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC), is co-sponsored by ALS (who are the safety and evacuation chopper providers), iWay Africa (internet service providers), ICEA Lion (the insurance service providers) and Migaa, who are hosting the 10km spectator stage.

On Saturday April 26, there will be speeches outside KCB, Kiambu branch from 11.30 and followed by the ceremonial start outside the Bank premises at 12.00pm.

The first five cars will be flagged off at three minutes interval while the rest of the pack will be given a 1 minute interval.

The climax of the RSC organised event will be the prize giving ceremony at San Valencia Museum Restaurant.

The cars will tackle three stages (Cianda, Mboi Kamiti & Migaa) on Saturday April 26 after which there will be an overnight perc ferme at Migaa. The Migaa spectator stage will be run once on Day One.

Sunday, April 27 will see the first rally car restart at Migaa parc ferme from  8am onwards. Cars will then tackle six stages with the Migaa spectator stage being run thrice and the longest stage at Tatu City.

Meanwhile, star rider Tutu Maina leads a team of 25 riders who will do duty for the Kenya team at the first round of the 2014 FIM Africa Central Africa Championship in Kampala, Uganda, on the weekend of April 19-20. Kenya will also be entering a team to the FIM Africa Continental Motocross

Championships will take place in Zambia in August.
