EAC to compile climate report

East African Community (EAC) countries have been asked to compile a report on effects of climate change ahead of global climate talks to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Participants of a climate change workshop, however, warned states not to produce insufficient data as it could jeopardise demands for compensation.

"Nations need to invest in regular monitoring and assessment of climatic factors to understands its implications," they stated.

The EAC stakeholders’ workshop in Kisumu, urged countries not to depend on estimates, but state how much they need as compensation for effects of climate change.

"Africa needs compensation as a result of activities of Western nations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Raila Odinga had urged African negotiators to push for about Sh7.5 trillion a year to assist the continent address the challenge.
