Mutula hands judicial task force report to Parliament

Parliament has now been handed a report of the task force on judicial reforms.

The report by the Justice William Ouko-led task force is now expected to be debated as soon as the House reconvenes next week.

Justice and Constitutional Minister Mutula Kilonzo handed over the report to two parliamentary committees that handle legal issues.

The move, said minister, is meant to appraise Parliament on the progress on judicial reforms after Cabinet resolved to fast track the reforms.

The committees are that of Administration of Justice and Legal Affairs headed by Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohammed and that of Delegated Legislation chaired by Nominated MP Amina Abdallah.

"I take pleasure in officially forwarding herewith the above report of the task force, which the Government appointed on May 29," he added in a letter to the two, a copy of which was obtained by The Standard.

Mutula further requested the committees to give him an opportunity to discuss the report with them, as he awaits Cabinet approval to start implementation.

"My ministry is anxious to put these reforms in motion particularly those that do not require constitutional amendments," adds Mutula in the letter to both Abdikadir and Amina.
