Reporters accuse FM radio host of inciting listeners

Journalists in Eldoret are up in arms over a vernacular radio station they accuse of criticising reporters working in Rift Valley.

The journalists have written a protest letter to the Media Council accusing Kass FM of inciting Rift Valley residents against reporters in the region.

They cited the station’s morning talk show host, Joshua arap Sang, who on two different occasions allegedly castigated two journalists on air for writing ‘negative’ stories against the recently formed Kalenjin Council of Elders.

"By doing so, he exposed the journalists to public debate in a manner likely to cause them harm from listeners," read the letter.

The letter further cites an incident where Mr Sang, who was the master of ceremonies during the inauguration of the council, allegedly threatened The Star reporter Mathews Ndanyi that he would burn his fingers if he wrote negatively about the meeting.

The letter also claims Sang held a talk show on October 10 where he took issue with Mr Peter Ngetich of the Daily Nation allegedly accusing him of betraying the interests of his community.
