TSC could deregister teachers over sexual harassment

Teachers Services Commission (TSC) board has called for deregistering of teachers who molest school girls. They said teachers found guilty be deregistered immediately from practicing teaching profession.

Speaking during stakeholders’ forum in Nairobi yesterday, TSC Chairman, Ibrahim Hussein said the commission considers child molestation retrogressive.

The forum was to discuss systems, procedures and policies dealing with sexual abuse of school children.

Mr Hussein said they would place names of such teachers in the Kenya Gazette.

"We are concerned of a girl-child’s welfare, let such acts be reported for measures to be taken," said Hussein.

He urged private school operators to liaise with the commission before employing any teacher.

"You could be employing errant teachers whom we have deregistered," he said.

Parent Association of Kenya Secretary, Musau Ndunda said posting of young unmarried teachers in girls’ school are the cause of rampant girl-teacher affairs. He also blamed school trips and weekend tuition as a platform that fuels the relationships.
