Why won’t my handset charge?

My Nokia 2760 handset has refused to charge. Could there be anything I can do to have it working again?

Yes there is something you can do. To begin with, make sure the power sockets are working well, and in good condition. Since the phone is digitally designed, it cannot work when the current flow is breaking up intermittently.

Secondly, make sure your charger is in good working condition. You can try using another one that is working to make sure yours is not the problem. Chargers fail to work, especially if they are used in wet conditions, high temperature areas, and faulty power.

Thirdly, if you are using the extension cable, it has to be the best type. Some extension cables deteriorate too fast. Their outlets expand after being in use for just a short while making it difficult for the charger plug-in pins to make contact with the extension cable.

Also, after you have verified all this things are satisfied that they are working, then you can check for the phone’s input, let the technician look at it to make sure the current flow is getting to the phone to charge the battery. This is the part that can become loose if the user is careless.

Lastly, the battery should also be checked for any faults. Batteries develop faults when they are old, or have not been pulled out of the phone for a very long time, and so have accumulated dust. This will require the help of a technician.

My Nokia 6111 cannot download data. Any idea why?

The phone’s data interface is made of very glossy finished metals. They may be copper or copper plated. If they are not well taken care of, they develop rust that will block the flow of current and data into and out of the phone.

One can try to solve this problem by using a pin. Scratch gently on this part, until it is shiny again. To prevent it rusting again, one can apply petroleum jelly and use tissue to wipe it off the plates.

Check the data cable for any breakages. The best way to go about this issue is to borrow another of the same kind, and use it to verify that the cable is or is not the offending accessory.

Some of the phones cannot be used on the PC, unless the software is installed on it. The PC can recognise it through its drivers.

Once everything is verified to be fine try connecting the phone to the PC. If it requires the software, the computer will ask you to insert a disk. But if it does not need a disk, it will just play once plugged in.
