Barclays to use cycling to end water problem

By Moses Omusula Barclays Bank has started a cycling competition to raise money to solve Kitui’s water problems. The bank’s Operations Team organised and saw the start of the event from Kona Baridi in Kiserian, Nairobi, to Magadi in Rift Valley, covering about 105km. More than 60 members of the Operations Team participated, 80 per cent of them finishing the race within two hours. The bicycles were leased from Kenya Cycling Association, which also offered technical and mechanical services. "We will put it to Barclays management to allow the Operation Team to involve more institutions," he said. The bank’s Operation Director James Kinyany flagged off the event. Another group of professionals, Mutui Museo (Good Neighbour), recently launched an initiative to end the perennial water problem in Ukambani and help avoid the recurrent hunger.
One of the organisers, Charles Maina, said the turn out was overwhelming.
