Orphans’ home seeks assistance

More than 200 orphans at a children’s home in Kaloleni are hungry since it ran out of food.

The home’s proprietor, Ms Beatrice Mbega, yesterday visited our Mombasa offices and appealed for help.

The home is at the Kaloleni Deliverance Church and doubles as a day-care centre. It was started in 2000 and caters for children aged between three and seven .

"We have run out of food. Good Samaritans who used to assist are hard to come by and our only hope is the Mercy Train, which The Standard Group initiated," she said.

Mbega said the children only receive porridge for the day unless wellwishers brought food.

"We are just making a humble appeal to be included as beneficiaries of the Mercy Train, which is a very good initiative," she said.
