By Karanja Njoroge More than 3,000 facing starvation in Mogotio in Koibatek have benefited from food donations worth Sh1.9 million. The donation by the East African Satsang Swamirayan Temple was distributed to residents of Kelwelwa and Kimngorom. Speaking during the presentation, Sports Minister Hellen Sambili who is the local MP said more than 12,000 were starving in the constituency. Prof Sambili said people were in need of food as dams and rivers had dried up. Some residents were too weak to walk to the food distribution ponts. The minister urged the Government to introduce the ‘Kazi Kwa Vijana’ programme to enable youths de-silt dams. "If the programme is introduced the dams would be de-silted by local youths," she said. Residents also face a burden of walking for more than 20 kilometres in search of water. Sambili said the area was last assisted with 1,500 bags of maize flour in February. She said some of the children lived on wild fruits and appealed to well wishers for assistance.
