GlaxoSmithKline gives Sh500,000 to ‘Mercy Train’

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has donated Sh500,000 to help starving Kenyans.

GSK management yesterday gave the donation to the ‘Mercy Train’ initiative spearheaded by the Standard Group in collaboration with other partners.

GSK General Manager Ciiru Miring’u said: "The staff responded to the appeal to help Kenyans facing starvation. Following the response by staff, the management was challenged and today we are honoured to donate Sh500,000 towards this noble initiative."

Ms Miring’u commended the ‘Mercy Train’ initiative for the efforts to alleviate the suffering of fellow Kenyans.

Thanked GSK

Standard Group Managing Director Paul Wanyagah, who received the donation, thanked GSK on behalf of partners in the initiative and appealed to other Kenyans to give more.

"On behalf of other partners, I would like to thank GSK. Having partnered with Kenya Red Cross who are strong on the ground, we believe this initiative will reach needy Kenyans and go towards alleviating their suffering," said Wanyagah.

Lack food

He said the onset of rains had not brought the needed reprieve and millions of Kenyans still cannot access food.

He said the ‘Mercy Train’ initiative, which has been on for five weeks, still needs donations.

Also present during the meeting were GSK Human Resource Director Carol Onsando and Customer Service Manager Dennis Aiko and Standard Group Chief Editor John Bundotich.
