World Hope to turn new page with Page’s hiring

By Gilbert Wandera The Kenya Premier League (KPL) will have its first foreign coach in years after World Hope, to be called Nairobi City Stars next season, announced the appointment of Oliver Page as head coach. Page will take over the team when it fully assumes its new name in the new ear. The German replaces former international John ‘Bobby’ Ogola who has been handling the team this season. However, nothing is known about the fate of Ogolla’s assistant Ken Odhiambo The new coach will be unveiled today at Hope Centre grounds where the team plays its home matches. Ambassadors In Sports (AIS) acquired World Hope a month ago and changed the name. AIS announced a new management structure that also has former Kenyan captain Musa Otieno as Vice-President. A statement from Nairobi City Stars, said the new coach is a former player in the German Bundesliga and an accredited UEFA Professional Coaching Licence holder. He started his playing career at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1988 and was there for three seasons. He then moved to Dynamo Dresden for a couple of years before quitting his playing career. Page has coached different teams previously including Sportfreunded Siegen U-23 and VFL Hamm. He has also been seconded to Werder Bremen for a few months. Bremen won the German league in 2004. Nairobi Stars management said they are excited about the experience and professionalism that Page will bring to the team. "He will be responsible for working with the first team as well as designing a youth program to successfully develop young players in Kenya to play at the highest levels," said a statement from the club.
