Three people were murdered in separate incidents in Laikipia East and West districts.

Among those killed was a primary school teacher, who was shot on Saturday night.

His killing sparked demonstration at Sipili town, paralysing transport. Mr Michael Mwangi Mureithi was riding on motorcycle when he ran into an armed gang which shot him, after hijacking a matatu.

"They shot him on the back, killing him instantly," said witnesses.

And on Sunday night, a man was shot dead at Ndururumo shopping centre, after a church fundraiser.

He was killed as he walked to a friend’s home to spend the night. Another man, who accompanied him, was seriously injured and was taken to Nyahururu District hospital, where he was admitted.

A resident, Ms Margaret Wangare, told The Standard that the incident took place 200 metres from the Ndururumo police post.

The bodies were taken to Nyahururu District hospital mortuary.

LYNCHED

And in Laikipia East District, an old man was lynched by a mob, and his 17 year-old son seriously injured, over claims they were witches.

Mr Hamisi Juma, 72, was hacked to death and his body burnt at Chuma village in Tigithi location.

The mob reportedly ordered the son to chop his father’s head, before setting his body on fire.

OCPD James Kithuka said the son sustained serious injuries, and was taken to Nanyuki District hospital.
