Relatives of terror suspects sue police

Families of two people arrested in connection with the Uganda bombings want the police to produce them before court.

Officers attached to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) arrested Hussein Hassan Agade and Christopher Mangondu aka Idris six days ago. The families fear their kinsmen may be taken out of the country without extradition proceedings being conducted.

Agade, who is an employee of an FM radio station in Nairobi, was detained along with Mr Hussein Mohammed Dafalla, before he was moved to an unknown location.

Since Agade and Mangondu’s arrest, the officers have been interrogating and moving them from one police station to another.

Their families now want Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere and ATPU boss Nicholas Kamwende to appear in court, together with the original warrants or orders for the detention of the two men.

They have named Iteere, Kamwende and the Attorney General as respondents in the case.

In the habeas corpus cases filed at the High Court registry yesterday, the families also want the two officers to show cause why their kinsmen should not be released forthwith.
