Prime Minister and ODM Pentagon meet Tsvangirai

Prime Minister Raila Odinga hosted Zimbabwean Prime Minister-designate Morgan Tsvangirai and ODM officials at his Karen home.

The Wednesday meeting came after we exclusively reported another high profile meeting with Africa National Congress (ANC) leader Jacob Zuma at the JKIA, Nairobi.

Mr Tsvangirai is reported to have held talks with the Prime Minister and was later introduced to the Pentagon and ODM officials.

Zuma and Raila discussed the Zimbabwe crisis as ANC and ODM announced an alliance.

Zuma sent a strong message to African dictators that their time was up and underscored the role parties would play in strengthening democracy.

"Africa has reached a point where the link of progressive political parties is very crucial to shape up the continent," Zuma told The Standard.

Among the leaders present were Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, ODM chairman Henry Kosgey, Secretary General Anyang’ Nyong’o, Tourism Minister Najib Balala, Agriculture Minister William Ruto, and Treasurer Omingo Magara.

The meeting’s agenda was not disclosed. It came as ODM prepared for its grassroots elections between December 6 and 8.

The National Delegates Conference will be held at Bomas of Kenya on December 18.

Yesterday, the National Election Board chairman Philip Okundi said plans for the party elections were ongoing and MPs would lead the process in their constituencies.
