Senator Sonko in trouble with KDF for ‘chopping’ Uhuru’s head

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko impersonates President Uhuru Kenyatta's military gear

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko could find himself in trouble after he allegedly edited a photograph of President Uhuru dressed in Kenya Army combat gear and superimposing his head on the president’s body.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have now hinted that they are investigating the matter after which  they could take legal action against the senator.

KDF spokesperson, Bogita Ongeri, told The Nairobian that, “It is wrong to do that, especially for a person of his calibre and standing in a honourable house. In fact it’s a criminal offence.”

Ongeri said by so doing, Sonko impersonated President Uhuru since the combat gear in the edited photo has Commander in Chief (CiC) initials inscribed on the chest pockets.

“That is akin to impersonation by the senator, and we are going to start investigations that could lead to legal action against him,” he said.

Sonko allegedly posted the photo on September 26 around 2pm, captioning it thus: “I take this opportunity to welcome His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of the Kingdom of Jordan. Kenyans are the country’s true wealth and they are both the means and the object of its development process.”

This was after President Uhuru Kenyatta stepped out in full military uniform to welcome King Abdullah II of Jordan who arrived in the country on Monday for a visit focusing on security matters.

The king was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Senator Sonko could not be reached for comment.
