American television channel, Fox News, suffered the wrath of Kenyans on Twitter after it portrayed Africa as a "war torn" continent in its coverage of Pope Francis' visit.
On Wednesday, the day the Pope landed in Kenya, Fox News aired a segment titled "Pope visits war-torn Africa" which elicited anger among Kenyans.
Kenyans on Twitter did not take it lightly. Using the hashtag #SomeoneTellFoxNews, Kenyans expressed their anger at the way the channel portrayed the Pope's three-day visit to Kenya.
Hlazo Mkandawire @hlazotj: Media representation of Africa said: "This headline by Fox News is the highest level of idiocrity in global media."
Director of Presidential Strategic Communications Unit Dennis Itumbi – Digital @OleItumbi tweeted: "#SomeoneTellFoxNews that it's absurd that their slogan is actually fair and balanced."
Nairobi laywer Donald B Kipkorir @DBK017 said: "In the US, the Pope is in armoured car and convoy. In Kenya, he uses simple car and no armed convoy #SomeoneTellFoxNews."
Nominated MP Sonia Birdi also weighed in @soniabirdikenya: "At a time of promoting peace and harmony, your comments are not tasteful. Bure kabisa."
FaridaKaroney @Faridakaroney tweeted: "#SomeoneTellFoxNews that Africa is a continent and has more than 50 beautiful countries and islands."
This comes months after CNN, while covering US President Barack Obama's visit to the country, termed Kenya a "hotbed of terror". Obama was attending the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July.
