Go for it, ladies

It was none other than Bob Marley who cautioned against waiting for love in vain.

You remember the refrain? "I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love... So don’t treat me like a puppet on a string."

We have come a long way as a people. Here I’m not referring to Charles Darwin’s evolution theory but the forces that govern our social behaviour. Why do women fantasise about dating certain men whether colleagues, neighbours or people they meet at the bus stop and yet they do not go on the attack?

The era of Affirmative Action has brought lots of changes but the sisters still sit back and hope to be hunted. But therein lies the problem. With the hectic lifestyle in the city, our women would be better advised to be more proactive in their quest for relationships.

Take the case of Kim. He has had a few issues to occupy his mind the last few months. One, he has been struggling to cope with a new abrasive woman boss. Kim insists that he has behaved perfectly well towards his new boss and he doesn’t see why she is so hard on him.

"She came and we welcomed her well but for some strange reason, she seems not to take kindly to me," he laments. But Kim is not completely innocent. I remember that a few weeks ago, he commented on her short skirts and knowing him, he is just the type to ogle at women.

Mood swings

So when Kim is not worried at work, he is whining about his diminished investments portfolio both in stock shares and unit trusts. This has made him develop terrible swing moods that even the closest of his buddies are finding hard to cope with.

As if that is not enough, his car got rammed from behind by a matatu during the Obama holiday. As of last week, he was still a member of the Great Trek to and from Muthurwa.

So you can imagine the last thing in his mental radar is a woman. So what happens to the lady who eyes him without making a bold statement? She waits and waits hoping that the day will come when Kim will go for the kill. When the waiting seems endless, she decides that Kim is just ignoring her and she would simply forget about him. But since she cannot do it, what happens next? We have ladies who walk around the office waiting to explode! Dada ongea, fungua roho yako (lady open your heart).

On the other hand, Kim lives on tenterhooks wondering why nothing ever works for him. Little wonder then that our streets are filled with sulky people living on the verge of violence.

The deal was sealed with a handshake before the two men headed in different directions. One of them went to Kenya Revenue Authority headquarters while the other went to his office to await some money.
