Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang’ has said the Education Ministry will continue streamlining the sector despite the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) calling for a recall of last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

Dr Kipsang’ defended the credibility of the KCSE results, saying the ministry had invested a lot of resources in restructuring the exam system, and the results were a true reflection of the ability of the 574,125 candidates who sat the exam.

“We want to ensure students get results of what they have done. Our students got marks based on their full potential, and that is what we want to nurture,” Kipsang’ said.

The PS spoke at St Bakhita’s Ebusiratsi Girls’ School in Emuhaya Constituency, Vihiga County, after touring Bunyore Girls and Ebusiratsi Primary School where he launched the laptops project.

He was accompanied by State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, Emuhaya MP Wilbur Ottichilo, ICT Authority Director Paul Rono, Kuppet National Chairperson Omboko Milemba, county directors of TSC and Education John Odongo and Victoria Mulili respectively, among other leaders.

Knut through its Secretary General Wilson Sossion has sought the intervention of the National Assembly in its quest to have the exam results recalled, citing a breach of marking processes that were overlooked by the Kenya National Examinations Council.

Mr Esipisu asked parents to allow students go to school in order to reduce high number of school dropouts. “It is unfortunate when a child of only 13 years drops out of school. What do they do after dropping out of school at that age?” he posed.
