Teachers Service Commission signs contract with AoN Minet to manage Sh5.9b medical cover for teachers

Nairobi, Kenya - Teachers Service Commission has signed a contract with AoN Minet to manage Sh5.9 billion medical cover for teachers.

The contract was signed on Friday, marking a major milestone in enhancing teachers’ health cover.

The move comes only a day after the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers KUPPET rejected any further deductions on teachers’ salaries towards medical schemes.

But TSC secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni said the scheme is the best teachers can ever get and said he is satisfied with the robust cover teachers stand to enjoy.

“Teachers will start to enjoy the benefits July 1. This is a good scheme enhanced for all teachers,” he said.

Lengoiboni said the insurance firm has signed a one year contract which would be renewed subject to their performance.

“They will now put in structures and communicate accordingly to the teachers,” said Lengoiboni.

Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT secretary Wilson Sossion said teachers are happy with the development on their health cover.

“As teachers we negotiated for this and it’s all happiness that it has finally been completed. Teachers must enjoy good services from July 1,” said Sossion.

Under the new scheme, teachers will enjoy an inpatient cover of up to Sh1 million.
