Health worker accused of raping female mental patients

Springfield:  Jimmy Savile’s older brother Johnny molested women at a mental health home, a report has found.

One, believed to be a former patient, complained he raped her.

The report uncovered seven victims of sexual abuse at Springfield Hospital in south London.

Johnny, who died in 1998, worked at the hospital as a recreation officer in the 1970s and allegations of abuse by him were uncovered by Operation Yewtree officers.

They were made by five women, between 1978 and 1980, with the last two culminating in him being sacked for gross misconduct of a sexual nature in 1980.

Johnny, who was five years older than Jimmy, lost his job as a recreation officer at a south London hospital over a depraved “sex game”.

A woman, believed to be a former patient at the hospital, complained he mauled, groped and raped her.

The abuse was carried out on five mental health patients, one staff member and a visitor.

The team said he used his “association” with his famous brother in order to get access to patients who he would abuse.

A spokesman for the hospital, which is now called the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, said in 2012: “We are aware of this case and if we are contacted by the police we will cooperate fully.

“We believe there was a criminal case in 1979 over rape allegations. The victim is believed to have been an ex-patient at the hospital.”

However, the report by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust found no evidence Jimmy Savile ever visited Springfield or any other of the trust’s units.
