Nakuru, Kenya: Former President Daniel Arap Moi has called on Jubilee government to employ more teachers in schools across the country to boost teacher-student ratio and enhance quality education.

The former President who was speaking at Kabarak Community Chapel during the KCSE and KCPE candidates' prayer day decried high number of students/pupils per class against few teachers which he said negatively affect final result.

The government, he said, should invest more in teachers as the future of the country now depends on not only education but quality education which must be offered in a way that all children get more time with the teacher.

“The number of children per teacher should be the standardised at 40 per teacher in a class but as it is now, one teacher handles 65 children. This makes it hard for such children to perform,” said Moi.

He said should the government want to make economic development, it was prudent that it invests in quality education structures and bridge the teacher-student/pupil ratio for a better future.

Moi, who is the founder of Kabarak group of schools said that Kabarak education facilities was the epitome of quality and equitable education saying that the primary school, high school and university admits students indiscriminately  from across the country.

The former head of state encouraged the candidates who will sit the forth coming national examination to maintain high discipline, hard work and have faith in God to realise success.

“The beginning of knowledge is God himself. Trust in him always. You should not fear anything as I believe you have been working hard ahead of the examinations,” Moi advised.

Moi also echoed the sermon of the day's Speaker Rev. Dr Matthews Mwalwa who is a Senior Pastor at AIC-Milimani Nairobi who asked the candidates to rely on God's strength.

This year's Moi High School Kabarak and Moi Primary school-Kabarak are nick-named 'The Daniels' hailed the former President for establishing such facility and his role investing in education across the country and promised to triumph in the national examinations.

Moi High School Kabarak Chief Principal Henry Kiplagat exuded confidence that the school will excel in the forthcoming national examinations as they had adequately prepared for it.

“We have focused, dedicated, disciplined candidates whom we have named 'The Daniels'. Daniel in the Bible means man of faith and we have confidence that they will give as distinction,” said Kiplagat.

The Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro, who spoke on behalf of the parents praised the retired President for leaving a legacy in the education sector.

“Former President Moi, has a legacy to leave behind. We as political leaders of different spheres should also thrive to leave a legacy through such distinguished leadership,” said Ethuro.
