Professor Ali Mazrui is arguably one of Kenya's and the World's most respected scholars .... His academic achievements though are a far cry of those from the region where he hails from: the coast. Year after year, the region continues to record poor performance in national examinations, it is the region with the highest rate of school drop outs, and as if that is not enough, tertiary institutions have the lowest enrollment of students from the coast. Just what ails education at the coast? Here is part one of the series the last to graduate with our reporter Esther Kahumbi.
