A conference to facilitate peaceful elections and a smooth transition has opened in Mombasa as the country prepares for elections likely to be held in march next year. The constitution provides that president Kibaki must retire after serving his two terms of five years each. President kibaki and prime minister Raila Odinga led the grand coalition government and members of parliament at the two day conference. The conference comes 10 months to the general election and is critical to president kibaki's goal to secure political stability to erase the 2008 post-election violence blot. Bbut president Kibaki kept the attendants of the meeting guessing when he alluded to knowing his project—what many attending the conference translated to mean his successor....KTN's Esther Kahumbi reports from Mombasa.
