Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has eulogised Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) National Chairman, Johnson Nzioka, as a dedicated educator committed to advancing primary education in Kenya.

Nzioka died on Sunday, February 16, following a road accident in Athi River.

Nzioka, 57, was also the headteacher of Donholm Primary School in Nairobi and had served in the education sector for 38 years.

He rose from a classroom teacher in 1987 to headteacher in 2012 and was later elected as KEPSHA chairman, leading over 23,000 primary school heads across the country.

He held a Higher Diploma in Education Management from the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) and a Bachelor of Education degree from East African University.

Nzioka was also active in sports administration, serving as Vice-Chairperson of the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association and Organising Secretary for the Federation of East African Primary Schools Headteachers.

“Kenya has lost one of its most gallant academic soldiers, a man who will be deeply missed by the teaching fraternity and the entire education sector,” said TSC Chief Executive Dr Nancy Njeri Macharia in a statement on Monday, February 17.

Macharia said Nzioka’s leadership legacy would continue through his commitment to shaping the future of primary education and his work with more than 8 million learners.
