A former nanny has taken legal action against Simon Kabu and his estranged wife, Sarah Njoki Nyaga, the founders of Bonfire Adventures, demanding Sh21 million in damages.
Identified in court documents as JK, the nanny accuses the couple of privacy violations, cyber harassment, and emotional distress after a CCTV recording from their home allegedly leaked online.
JK was hired in June 2024 to care for the couple’s children. However, she claims her job became unstable due to their troubled marriage.
Matters escalated in July 2024, when Sarah, who had reportedly moved out, returned unexpectedly and fired JK, suspecting an affair between her and Simon.
The next morning, the situation allegedly turned violent when Sarah, in a fit of rage, attacked JK with a kitchen knife, injuring her arm.
Despite reporting the assault and receiving ODPP approval for charges, Sarah was never formally prosecuted. JK asserts she was pressured into settling the matter out of court.
In December 2024, CCTV footage from the couple’s home surfaced online, triggering widespread speculation about JK’s alleged relationship with Simon.
She maintains she never consented to the surveillance and was unaware she was being recorded, which could be a direct violation of her constitutional right to privacy.
JK further alleges that Simon, either deliberately or negligently, leaked the footage, exposing her to cyberbullying and reputational damage. The backlash forced her to flee Nairobi for her rural home.
In her lawsuit, JK names, Bonfire Adventure & Events, Simon Kabu and Sarah Njoki Nyaga as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively.
She seeks Sh7 million each for sexual harassment, breach of confidentiality and reputational damage.
However, Simon Kabu has challenged the case, arguing that the Employment and Labour Relations Court has no jurisdiction over the matter.
The case is set to be mentioned before Justice Bernard Matanga.
