A suitable land has been identified for the construction of a Sh5 billion referral hospital, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.

The facility, to be constructed by Friends of USA in conjunction with the county government will be built between Naivasha and Nakuru towns, and is expected to serve neighbouring counties. Speaking at the end of a three-day visit by a delegation from the US, Mbugua said the hospital will have a cancer, heart, and dialysis centres. It will also have a helipad for emergency services.

"We have identified the land where the referral hospital will be constructed. The process of acquiring the land is in top gear, and work is expected to commence in a couple of months," said the governor.

Mbugua thanked the USA investors accepting to put up such a crucial facility in the county.

The governor at the same time said a feasibility study by the Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) had identified two parcels of land suitable for a mini-airport.

"The authority has handed over their report and recommendations. We are going through it before deciding which parcel of land to use," he said.

Earlier, the US delegation had promised to build the largest conventional centre in Nakuru town worth Sh163 million.
