This cocktail is a Spanish wine punch that includes chopped fruit and sparkling water for a refreshing summertime cooler. The Sangria’s rich history dates back to the Roman Empire, where it is believed to have been introduced to the Americans by Spanish colonists and explorers. The refreshing Sangria is a fruity, refreshing and slightly sweet cocktail with a hint of tartness from the citrus fruits.

INGREDIENTS:

¾ cup of Superfine Sugar.

1 cup of tap water.

1 orange, sliced.

1 lime, sliced.

5 750ml bottles of red wine.

Ice cubes.

Sparkling water.

1 cup of fresh raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or halved strawberries.

 Method:

Start by dissolving the sugar into tap water in a large pitcher. Throw in some orange slices, lime slices and wine. Add the ice cubes to the pitcher and stir until it is cold. Top up with sparkling water. You can now serve this homemade Sangria cocktail in red-wine glasses and garnish using fresh berries. You can use fresh raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or halved strawberries.

This cocktail is perfect for those who don’t like drinking a lot or light-weights. Enjoyed in social gatherings, parties and brunch, it is perfectly balanced with a blend of wine and fruity flavours doing its job. Interestingly, the term Sangria means ‘blood’ due to its rich, deep red colour. It is mostly served in a large pitcher, hence allowing revelers to serve themselves and garnish their drink as they want.
