
2025 was a great year for American rapper and songwriter Doechii, and it just keeps getting better. Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, popularly known as Doechii, has been named Billboard's 2025 Woman of the Year. She will be honoured and celebrated at a prestigious event later in March. The date and venue will be announced to her fans and family on Monday.
The 27-year-old has been in the spotlight this year after winning a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. It was her first Grammy and she went home with the award for her 2024 album 'Alligator Bites Never Heal. ' The Denial is a river hitmaker made history after becoming the third woman to win at the Oscars, after Lauryn Hill in 1997 and Cardi B in 2019.
Breakout hip-hop star Doechii was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance at the Oscars. To show the world her incredible talent and skill, she went viral after delivering an electrifying performance at the awards. She sang and danced to her songs 'Denial is a River' and 'Catfish', leaving fans everywhere praising her. Even those unfamiliar with her music knew her name that day.
Her viral hits 'No Scrubs' and 'Denial is a River' peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and this isn't Doechii's first time in the top 100, the Tampa, Florida emcee has had five other songs on the coveted list including 'Balloon' and 'ExtraL' and collaborations with Tyler the Creator and Jennie respectively.
In 2023, she was honoured by Billboard and won a Music Rising Star award. The 'Anxiety' sensation also won the Women of the Year award, becoming the third woman to do so after Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
Billboard editor-in-chief Hannah Karp praised the hip-hop star for her unique style, sound, ideas, energy and ultra-candid lyrics. The highly anticipated Billboard's 2025 Women will honour several women in different categories. Erykah Badu will receive the Breakthrough Award, Jennie will receive the Songwriter of the Year Award and pop singer Meghan Trainor will receive this year's Hit Maker Award.
There will be performances from music legends and hitmakers, including Ángela Aguilar, Aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long and Tyla.
