Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has been honoured in the United Kingdom for her work in youth and women leadership in Kenya.

She received the award during the 2025 MK Inspiration Awards held at the Mayor of Milton Keynes Civic Reception and Awards Ceremony.

Njeri was recognised for her Tupange Kesho program, which focuses on empowering young people and women in Kirinyaga County. The initiative provides mentorship, entrepreneurship training and civic education.

The award ceremony took place in Milton Keynes, UK. Leaders who welcomed Njeri included MP Emily Darlington, Mayor Cllr. Marie Bradburn, Deputy Mayor Cllr. James Lancaster and other local leaders and officials.

Njeri expressed her gratitude in a post on Instagram.

“I’m deeply humbled to receive an award from the United Kingdom ?? due to my contribution to youth and women leadership in Kenya and in particular our Tupange Kesho program,” she wrote.

“I thank God for always leading me and giving me the grace to serve diligently.”

She also thanked the Milton Keynes community for their warm welcome, mentioning several leaders by name.

“We started the Tupange Kesho program as a commitment to serve the people of Kirinyaga and didn’t think much about having the work we do appreciated abroad,” she added.

“To my team, I am always grateful for your relentless support because without you, the vision would not be achieved.”

Njeri’s recognition has been widely celebrated back home. Kenyan politician Martha Karua congratulated her on social media.

“Congrats my dear @Hon_Njeri_Maina, keep going,” she wrote. “The attention we are receiving is great and points that we are onto something great, so thanks to you all, supporters and haters alike.”

The Tupange Kesho program, which means “Let’s Plan Tomorrow,” has helped many at the grassroots level, especially young women and girls. Njeri said the international recognition came as a surprise, but it shows that their efforts are making a difference.
